CEBU, Philippines - The Pajo National High School belles reclaimed the throne they lost last year but had to go through fourth sets before fending off the reigning Milo Little Olympics regional champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 3-1, to rule the 8th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Visayas qualifying the other day at the Aznar Coliseum.
PNHS took the first set, 25-18, but USJ-R quickly fired back for the equalizer, 25-16.
That proved to be USJ-R's last hurrah as PNHS swept the next two frames in lopsided fashion for the kill, 25-17, 25-13.
PNHS, thus, earned the right to represent the region in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League National Finals dubbed as “Tournament of Champions” on April 3 in Bacolod City.
“We were lucky because my players performed well during the championship. As part of my preparations for the nationals, I really need setters and I might also add some more blockers and spikers to solidify our defense,” said Pajo coach Rolando T. Manayon.
In the battle for third place, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) routed Catmon Elementary School, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18. – (FREEMAN)
