Freeman Cebu Sports

Still accepting nominees

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

More names have been suggested for enshrinement into the Cebu Sports Hall of Fame, but I’d like to remind those who are endorsing them to please also give the screening committee some documents and other material as proof of their feat.

While personal knowledge of some feats help us recall who should be elevated among the sports greats, the documents and other material to prove such would seal their place in the Cebu Sports Hall of Fame.

The Cebu City Sports Commission will continue to receive nominations to the Cebu Sports Hall of Fame all year round, but our enshrinement ceremony will be held only once a year as part of the Charter Week celebration of Cebu City.

To people like me, who have followed sports almost all my life, going through the list of names in the hall of fame is like taking a journey back in time.

Today I also embark on my own journey back in time. This has nothing to do about sports, but is one that I am taking to complete some unfinished business over a score ago.

There are, however, lots of sporting activities that will be held there too like the Battle of the Classes golf tournament and the Canteen Cup football event.

There will also be a badminton tournament and a run.

While up there in the far north, I hope technology will not fail me as I keep in touch with the Cebu teams taking part in the Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub, which tees off today at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City and the Del Monte Golf Club in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The Cebu teams in the tournament for players aged 55 years old and above are Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Cebu Country Club, Mactan Island Golf Club, and the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club.

I am scheduled to catch up with the coverage on Sunday and will stay until the end of the men’s regular event, which starts next week.

If you see me and I seem to be floating, please don’t feel bad, I am just trying to keep up with my busy schedule hehehe…

This was originally set last year, but finally the 1st Security Practitioners Shootfest will be held on February 27 at the NS Outdoor Firing Range in barangay Tawason, Mandaue City.

The competition is organized by the Philippine Society for Industrial Security (PSIS)-7 headed by lawyer Michelle Mendez-Palmares and the event is chaired by Retired Chief Insp. Raul Rendon with Glenn Java as match director.

The event will follow the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) format and the registration fee is pegged at P500.

Those interested to join can contact the PSIS-7 secretariat at (32)3160157 or 5122571. You can also call or text 0917-3230348.
