- Lemuel P. Maglinte -

CEBU, Philippines -   Over 2,000 runners are expected to participate in the first ever "Backpack Family Fun Run For A Cause" slated this March 13 at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Spearheaded by Primer Group of Companies, Run For Sight Foundation in cooperation with the CEC Foundation, the Rotary Club of Fuente and the World Vision Foundation, the run serves a major fund raising project for the less fortunate public school students in Cebu.

The organizers hope to raise funds to produce 500 limited edition backpacks with school supplies for the Guba Elementary School, 300 backpacks for Subangdaku Elementary School as well as 1000 backpacks for Brigada Eskwela of ABS-CBN and the Liloan adapted students of World Vision Foundation Inc.

“This is so different from the usual running events held in Cebu because there is less rigid competition in this race,” said Boris Joaquin, Publics in Ministry Director of World Vision. “We will also let the children beneficiaries to run and mingle with the participants during the race."

The race will feature 3-kilometer, 5K and 15K categories including a 300-meter dash.

To highlight the event, actor/commercial model Derek Ramsay and former Ms. Universe runner-up Miriam Quiambao will be present as guests of honor.

Registration fee is pegged at P350 for 3K and 5K races, P450 for the 15K and P200 for the 300m dash.

Registration sites are at the R.O.X, Res/Toe/Run at the Ayala Center Cebu, Columbia, The North Face in SM City Cebu and at the Center for Sight Foundation at the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital.—(FREEMAN)
