CEBU, Philippines - The Catmon belles proved that height is not a hindrance to success after they thrashed Abellana National School (ANS) for their first win in the 8th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Visayas qualifying at the Aznar Coliseum.
Catmon, the Palarong Pambansa grandslam champion and the only elementary team that dared to join a high school sporting event of such magnitude, whipped ANS in straight sets, 25-8, 25-10.
Among those who figured prominently for Catmon's victory were Mae Angeli Montebon, Justine Dorog, Maria Lina Montebon, Wella Mae Ortega, Mary Angielou Castillo and Chrisley Ann Sucalit.
Defending champion University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), on the other hand, stayed unbeaten in two starts, claiming Liloan National High School as its latest victim.
The 10-time Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) title-holder overpowered Liloan, 25-20, 25-10.
Liloan quickly bounced back through and vented its ire on the University of San Carlos (USC), 18-25, 26-24, 25-16.
The champion will represent the region in the Shakey's G-League National Finals on April 4-9 at the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod in Bacolod City. – THE FREEMAN
