Highly-anticipated event
By the time you read this, the result of the Philippines-Mongolia game shall have already been known.
I wanted to wait for the game before doing this article, but the deadline does not give me that opportunity.
So, I decided to write about another sporting event that many around the country and some parts of the world are also eagerly anticipating – the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub Golf Tournament.
The seniors’ event is set to tee off on Thursday next week at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club and the Del Monte Golf Club.
The men’s regular event will follow on the succeeding week also in the two courses.
Five Cebu-based golf clubs will be participating in the tournament. Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Cebu Country Club and the Mactan Island Golf Club will have teams for both events. Club Filipino de Cebu will only join the men’s event while Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club will play in the seniors’ tournament only.
The Alta Vista men’s team will be composed of Emir Abuitazil, Dennis Canoy, Eugene Dominic Espinoza, Jun Suan, David Park, Enrico Solon, Edsel Tan, Gabriel Yap, Jr., Marvin Mendoza and team captain Victor Gocela.
The seniors’ team will be manned by Ed Acain, Bobby Barria, Masahisa Kawakami, Roger Lo, Vic Gocela, Razy Razon, Ben Yu, and skipper Loloy Sabuga.
Cebu Country Club’s men’s team will be composed of Montito Garcia, Carl Almario, Eric Deen, Bayani Garcia, Mark Dy, Jovi Neri, Marko Sarmiento, Lloyd Jefferson Go, Gio Gandionco, and Joseph Stevens. This was relayed to me by team manager Charlie Go.
I still haven’t gotten the line up for the seniors’ event.
For MIGC, the men’s team will be composed of B. Gen. Raul Dimatatac, Maj. Wenceslao Romero, Maj. Kim Agatep, Marlo Cugtas, Boyet Dizon, Bart Vergara, Ronnie Sarigumba, Hubert Calan, Hiro Hasegawa, and team captain Col. Bam Jamorabo.
The seniors’ team will be composed of Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, Col. Ting Creus, Col. Oscar Cornelio, Vidal Hebi, Felix Villanueva, Rolando Alberto, Kim Jong Chul, and skipper B. Gen. Rodante Joya.
Boboy Durano, president of Club Filipino will be leading their men’s team. He will be joined by Evans Tumaliwan, Razy Razon, Victor Yuvallos, Jiji Gullas, Shotaro Suda, Peter Militante, Abel de Manuel, Kenneth DyGuani, and Raymond Garcia.
The seniors’ team of Mercedes will be composed of Bugs Unchuan, James Gaite, Ed Misa, Joe Rodriguez, Toto Ursal, Aster Lagura, Hermie Tangaan, and Choie Ramos.
Boboy Durano also informed me that the bid of Cebu to host will push through as Club Filipino is willing to host the event next year alongside the Mactan Island Golf Club.
I hope the event goes back to Cebu next year.
