CEBU, Philippines - Queen City United-B defeated its sister-team QCU-A to retain its men's open title in the 8th Thirsty Cup football tournament over the weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Japanese national Ayagi sank the game-clinching goal as QCU-B came out victorious over a huge field of 60 entries to snare back-to-back titles.
For this edition, it was QCU's second crown after ruling the first ever 42-above category.
On the other hand, the University of San Carlos swept all but one of the titles at stake in the girls division.
USC clinched ladies open crown after edging out the visiting Xavier University of Cagayan de Oro City via penalty shootout, 3-2.
Just like in their successful championship bid in the girls 19 category, the Trebol sisters Monica and Maritoni powered USC to triumph on the way to being named as MVP in their respective classes.
Aside from the three titles, USC also got a runner-up finish in the boys 19 class won by the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation.
On the other hand, Erco-A sealed the three-day tournament with a heart-stopping 5-4 victory via penalty shootout over Don Bosco United in the men's 36-above.
The champion in other categories include San Roque Footbal Club (players 6), SG Bank-Dumaguete (players 8), San Carlos City (players 10), Springdale (boys 12), Mandaue Technical Institute (boys 14), and Don Bosco Boys (boys 17). (FREEMAN NEWS)
