LBC volleynet set this March

CEBU, Philippines - Finally, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) men’s volleyball squads will have something to look forward to – the 1st LBC Men’s Volleyball Collegiate Tournament Cebu Qualifying which is slated to kick off on the first week of March here at the Queen City of the South.

Cebu tournament coordinator Jordan Paca was not hesitant to accept the offer of organizing the tournament in order to help boost volleyball in Cebu especially in the men’s division.

“When the national organizers approached me regarding this matter, I was delighted and was never hesitant to accept it because it is already an opportunity for the men’s squads to have another exciting and tough tournament after Cesafi,” Paca said.

Paca will be inviting Cesafi member schools including the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), University of San Carlos (USC), University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), University of Cebu (UC), University of the Visayas (UV) and Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U).

Only trophies and medals will be given in the qualifying since cash prizes will be given during the national finals.

It will follow a single round robin format with the top four teams advancing to the crossover semifinals.

The champion will represent Cebu in the nationals and will compete against the best teams from Iloilo, Bacolod, Tacloban, Davao and Manila.

The Manila leg was already done with Far Eastern University (FEU) as the champion.

The 1st LBC Men’s Volleyball tournament organizers are planning to hold the Cebu Qualifying after the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League, which starts this Saturday.

“This is a nice opportunity for the Cebu teams, at least the tournament here in Cebu will continue after the Cesafi. That’s why we are behind from the Manila teams because we don’t have much tournament here in Cebu. That’s why we’re hoping that this tournament will be successful so that it would already be a yearly event,” said Paca. (FREEMAN)
