Catmon Elementary spikers to challenge high school squads in Shakey's G-League

- Marigold Lebumfacil -

CEBU, Philippines -  For the first time, an elementary team from the municipality of Catmon will be taking part in the 8th Shakey's Girls Volleyball League Visayas qualifying, which will kick off at 1 pm this Saturday at the Aznar Coliseum.

Tournament director Jordan Paca said the Shakey's G-League organizers gave the go signal for the Palarong Pambansa grandslam champion Catmon to play against secondary teams.

“They gave a nod to allow Catmon in the lineup of teams. This is the first time that an elementary team will be participating in a secondary division tournament. This is for the sake of upgrading their skills. The players of Catmon could already match up the skills of their high school counterparts based on their performance,” said Paca.

Aside from Catmon ES, the other contending squads include defending champion University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), Paref Southcrest, University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Pajo National High School (PNHS), University of San Carlos (USC), Abellana National School, Liloan National High School, Don Gerardo Ouano Memorial National High School and Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC)-Mandaue.

The champion will represent the region to the Shakey's G-League National Finals on April 4-9 at the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod in Bacolod City. --- (FREEMAN)
