CEBU, Philippines - Don Bosco Technology Center may have experienced some obstacles during their travel to Negros Occidental, but this did not stop the Cebu team from collecting three titles and some runner-up finishes in the just-concluded 2011 National Boscolympics held at Don Bosco-Victorias City.
There was a delay in the travel to Victorias in the southern part of Negros Occidental, but this did not stop the Cebuanos from logging a double victory in football.
DBTC silenced host Victorias, 1-0, in the championship match of elementary football.
The teams fought to a scoreless first half and it was only during the dying moments, eight minutes to the final whistle, when Jun Joseph Reña let go of a cross pass from the right wing that Mancel Alforque easily booted into the goal for the winning margin.
If that wasn’t close enough, the secondary team of coach Glenn Ramos had an even more heart-stopping win.
The team had to go through a penalty shoot out before scoring a 3-2 win also against DB-Victorias.
The goals of the Cebuanos came from Miguel Caindec, Valentine Calvo, and Ethan Decena. They also gave a lot of credit to their teammates for the hard-earned win.
The Cebuanos also won the title for elementary basketball beating DB-Mandaluyong.
DBTC’s top school officials led by its Rector, Fr. Honesto Geronimo, Jr. along with Fr. Eugenio Maglasang and Fr. Joel Jurao couldn’t be happier after seeing their student-athletes also showcasing their wares well in the other sporting events featured.
The Jean Phillippe Honoridez-led DBTC squad came up with a silver finish in table tennis along with the badminton team.
The chess team settled for a bronze finish.
Don Bosco-Guam captured the secondary basketball and volleyball titles while Tarlac dominated table tennis, Pampanga for badminton, and Makati in chess. (FREEMAN)
