CEBU, Philippines - The new officers of Talisay Tennis Club for the year 2011 had been formally inducted into office by Samsam Gullas, the dashing grandson of Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo "Eddiegul" R. Gullas, during the club's Christmas party with Hawaiian motiff graced by a live band recently.
Ricky Aznar, will serve for the fifth time in 10 years, as president, Jimmy Bas as vice president for internal affairs, Joe Camaya as VP for external affairs, Brix Nemenzo as treasurer, June Luminarias as secretary, and Don Seguerra as auditor. A court manager and two sergeant at arms are set to be appointed.
The said officers were elected in a meeting presided over by lawyer Raul Bacaltos, who is one of the 13 board of directors alongside Aznar, Jojo Bacaltos,Bas, Camaya, Gerry Campo, Jimmy Colango, Nilo Empaces, Noel Ipong, Luminarias, Nemenzo, Johnny Sabellano and Seguerra.
During the party, special recognition was given by outgoing president Lee Tiro and Aznar to Engr. Nilo Empaces for his initiative and invaluable efforts in renovating a space of the Talisay City Sports Complex into a presentable extension clubhouse which shall be known as Nilo's Hall.
Cash prizes and trophies were also handed to the champions of the recently-concluded doubles tournament in Gerry Campo and Boy Yares for class A, Dodong Neri and Maven Yagaya for class C.
Jimmy Bas was the most improved player, Dodong Neri the most scientific player and Chito Abellana as the most 'philantrophic player. Ballboys and referees got cash gifts and t-shirts.
In the women's inter-color, Team Red, skippered by Meanne Campo, outplayed the White squad of Cora Seguerra, in a heart-stopping matches, two of which went into tie-break that sent some husbands sliding from their chairs.
Known for the sporting attitude and hospitality of its members, the Talisay Tennis Club has been for years a favorite venue of other clubs in the Visayas and Mindanao. - THE FREEMAN
