Mabolo kiddies open chess this Sunday
CEBU, Philippines - It's all systems go for the 1st Mabolo Parish Day Youth Chess Open this Sunday at the Mabolo Parish Church Plaza Stage.
The one-day tournament features the 15-under and 18-under categories,
“This is the first chess tournament in kiddies open for the year and we are expecting that this would draw a lot of participants. This is also one way of discovering younger generations of chess players here in Cebu,” said tournament director Roger Abella.
Players may register once they arrive at the venue on Sunday starting at 8 am.
Aside from cash prizes, the top three finishers will receive trophies donated by Vice Mayor Augustus “Joy” Young.
The event is among the highlights of the 116th Mabolo Parish Day celebration, which starts today and culminates on Tuesday. It is spearheaded by the Knights of Columbus Mabolo Council.
The Catholic faithful are invited to attend mass this Sunday at 5 pm to be celebrated by Archbishop Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal in one of his last official functions as Archbishop of Cebu. (FREEMAN)
