CEVA officials to implement E-GUV this month

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) embarks on a tougher mission as it will start implementing the Expanded-Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (E-GUV) program later this month in all barangays in the province of Cebu.

CEVA president Jun San Juan said they are still discussing the details of the E-GUVsince they are yet to present it to Gov. Garcia for recommendation and approval.

“It’s a long-term program I should say. We have to go into details about the program properly because we will be presenting it to Gov. Garcia. She might have some inputs to make and so that we still have ample time to change it,” said San Juan.

“Hopefully after thorough deliberations, we could start enforcing this program late this month,” San Juan added.

During yesterday’s meeting at Coffee Bean, the CEVA officials tackled some the firms to be tapped to coordinate with CEVA. They cited the Department of Education (DepEd), Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and the Local Government Units (LGUs).

CEVA also encouraged the establishment of a sports commission in every LGU for the sports program like volleyball and other sports.

“This is indeed not a short-term program. During the planning stage itself, the E-GUV already has a large scope. We are looking forward at its start since the program is very vital to create newly-discovered players who could play for the next season of the GUV Cup. Hopefully we could see these products through this program,” said CEVA vice president Andrew Choachuy.

Also present during the meeting were CEVA co-chairman Glenn Soco and CEVA board members Ryan Aznar, Paul Delgado, Judith Bonita, Nona Catipay and The Freeman managing editor Nimrod NL Quiñones.

The E-GUV, authored by Soco, covers the new extensive grassroots level volleyball program in the different LGUs, towns and cities of Cebu province.

This was hatched to complement the pronouncement of Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) vice president Gener Dungo recommending Cebu to be the “volleyball capital of the Philippines”.

The E-GUV will feature trainings and seminars in relation to playing skills, coaching and officiating.

Soco said one of E-GUV's goals is the systematic organization, which ensures the programs set by the provincial government, CEVA and PVF will be implemented and the standards of the rules of the game will be properly followed.

“E-GUV will further boost the awareness and participation of volleyball in the different LGUs in the grassroots level, in anticipation of more 'Garbo sa GUV Cup' and molding national players from Cebu,” said Soco. (FREEMAN)
