All set for Mano Amon Run

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu’s oldest existing run, the Halad Kang Mano Amon, stages its 32nd edition this Friday with over a thousand runners expected to see action in Danao City.

The event was put up by Danao’s grand old man, Ramon “Mano Amon” Durano Sr., two years after the staging of the first Milo Marathon with the hope of producing more Cebuano talents to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Bert Banzon, Toto Cañete and Ereneo Eliot.

Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts' Joel Baring, who is handling the technical side of the event, recalls that the event also served as a highlight of Mano Amon’s birthday celebration.

“As I could recall, we even use to mañanita Mano Amon before the run,” Baring said.

Even after Mano Amon’s death, 15 years ago, his family members decided to continue the race in his honor.

“This is my lolo’s legacy so we continue to do this event,” says former Danao City councilor and Danao City Sports Commission chairman Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez,Jr., one of Mano Amon’s grandsons during a press conerence at Ila Puti at the Asiatown IT Park yesterday.

The event features the 3K, 5K and 12 classes.

Registration is free and there will be a free transportation to Danao. Pick up time is 4 am during race day at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The deadline for registration will be on Thursday at the Philippine Sports Commission office at the CCSC. (THE FREEMAN)
