CEBU, Philippines - After a series of bidding and consultations, the renovation and rehabilitation of the 16-year-old Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) track oval will finally be realized in summer next year.
CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros said the technical group assigned on the bidding of the suppliers agreed unanimously to hold the renovation in summer to avoid weather disruption.
“It is timely to have it during summer since most of the bidders have a time frame of two months for the installation of the runner and it needs another month for the curing period, which needs a good weather condition. That’s why we opted that summer will be the best time,” said Ballesteros.
The other members of the technical group under the supervision of Cebu City Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young are Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) president John Pages, Dr. Danilo Villadolid, University of Cebu coach Eldie Banzon and Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) commissioner and The Freeman’s managing editor Nimrod NL Quiñones.
The committee will scrutinize the track records of each supplier and check on the affordability and quality of their products and services.
Ballesteros said they are more focused on how the bidders do the drainage system, the base and the quality of their rubbers as well.
“Even if we decided on the time of the installation of the rubberized track, we will make it sure that the bidding will be within the year,” he said.
By the end of the year, the technical group will then decide on the supplier that will do the renovation of the CCSC track oval.
“We will be choosing one among these six suppliers, which will fit all the qualities that we’re looking for, in order to make sure that we will have a quality track oval in return,” said Ballesteros.
The City government has already set aside P40 million for the facelift of the track oval.
“With this development, something greater and bigger is way ahead of the sports community here in the Queen City of the South,” said Ballesteros. (THE FREEMAN)
