CEBU, Philippines - Mark Alasagas fought to a draw with Jeje Dignos in the final round but that was all he needed to rule the November edition of the OPASCOR Inter-Employee Monthly Chess Tournament at the OPASCOR Training Room.

Alasagas finished the 7-round Swiss system competition with 12.0 points. Atty. Tomas Riveral, who swept Gerry Dignos, 2-0, after 27 moves of an English Opening, placed second with 10.5 points, while Jeje Dignos came in third with 9.0 points.

Albert Mula copped the fourth place honors with 8.5 points, while Tony Riveral, Srvin Riveral and Elmer Respecia were at joint fifth to seventh place with identical 8.0 points.

Completing the top 10 finishers were Piper Riveral, Gerry Dignos and Evan Riveral.

The games were supervised by international arbiter Marvin Ruelan and Tony Cabibil. – THE FREEMAN
