In Dumaguete City CVIRAA meet opens today

CEBU, Philippines - Perennial champion Cebu City guns for its 18th overall championship as the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet formally kicks off this afternoon at the Lamberto C. Macias Sports Center in Dumaguete City.

The best athletes gathered from the different schools in Cebu City are well-prepared for the battle in retaining the CVIRAA title it won the meet’s inception in 1994.

In last year's edition held in Danao City, the Niños accumulated a total of 801.5 points in claiming the crown at Danao City.

Cebu Province was a far secondwith 529.67 points followed by Bohol with 327.75 and Mandaue City with 212.92.

Cebu City will be joined by Bais, Bayawan, Bogo, Bohol, Carcar, Cebu Province, Danao, Dumaguete, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Naga, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Tagbilaran, Talisay, Tanjay and Toledo.

Around 9,000 athletes will see action starting tomorrow in archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesports, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, sipa/sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

The Cebu City delegation is represented by the winners in last year’s Cebu City Olympics and some selected athletes from various schools in the city.Department of Education secretary Bro. Armin Altamirano Luistro, FSC will grace the opening ceremonies. (THE FREEMAN)
