CEBU, Philippines - Ex-varsity players showed off as they powered Land Transportation Office (LTO) and PhilHealth in bagging the men and women's title of the Arena 7 volleyball tournament at Sacred Heart School-gym.

The LTO spikers headed by their regional director Raul Aguilos trounced Pag-Ibig squad in four sets.

The gritty LTO took the first two sets, 25-21, 25-22 behind the efforts of former University of the Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) stalwarts, James Ryan Rivera, Roy Ulan, Clifford Café, Eric Viagedor, Melfred Sampilo and Arvin Alfajardo.

Pag-Ibig bounced back in the third set, 25-23, but LTO came raging in the fourth set in dominating fashion, 25-17, to win the match.

It was a double whammy for Pag-Ibig as their women's team kneeled before the towering Philhealth belles.

PhilHealth took the women's tiara in straight sets.

The first two sets were dominated by PhilHealth, 25-21 and 25-22 behind the powerful attacks of University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) players Genie Sabas and Christy Aina Laroga backed by Roselyn Balincasag of USPF.

But in the third set, PhilHealth faced rough sailing moments as their match went into a see-saw battle and ended up two deadlocks before taking the victory with a 27-25 decision.

The said tournament was participated by all the government agencies all over Central Visayas. (THE FREEMAN)
