Cebu teams start bid in Unigames

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu teams are all set for their quest for glory as the annual University Games fires off today at Silliman University in Dumaguete City.

Inaugural beach volley champs Edward Ybañez and Jonrey Opone of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation are gunning for back-to-back titles in the men's division.

In the distaff side, it would be a toss-up between USPF and Southwestern University. USPF will rely on Apple Eve Saraum and Dianne Navaja, while SWU will bank on Danika Yolanda Gendrauli and Lorie May Layno.

Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's volleyball grandslam champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) of legendary coach Grace Antigua will try to improve its second place finish last year. The Josenians lost to the University of Sto. Tomas in last year's finals.

On the other hand, two-time CESAFI women's champ SWU of coach Jordan Paca will try to continue its winning streak in indoor volleyball. (FREEMAN SPORTS)
