Bisdaks upbeat on title defense in Milo Olympics National Finals

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion Team Bisdaks will sail off to Cagayan de Oro City tomorrow full of hopes of not only retaining its title but also improving its output in the 2011 Milo Little Olympics National Championships set from October 14 to 17 in the City of Golden Friendship.

Team Bisdaks, representing the Visayas region, is mainly composed of Cebuano athletes plus some gold medal potentials from Dumaguete and Bohol.

Sportsman Ricky Ballesteros, who is spearheading the delegation, earlier told The Freeman they are confindent of defending their overall crown.

“We are confident that we can maintain it.We got more time to prepare for this meet,” Ballesteros said.

During the inaugural MLO national finals last year, Team Bisdaks wowed everyone not only for its grand hosting but also for dominating almost all sporting disciplines in the country’s biggest junior developmental event ran by a private entity.

The Bisdaks, however, badly performed in taekwondo and had a so-so performance in swimming and athletics even as there were some Cebuano talents who made good marks.

Ballesteros acknowledged the weak spot but said already challenged the coaches and athletes of the concerned sports to show better this year.

Just like last year, volleyball, sipa, sepak takraw and table tennis are the potential gold medal mine for the Bisdaks.

The other sporting events featured in the four-day sports conclave are tennis, chess, badminton, gymnastics and scrabble. (FREEMAN)
