CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu (UC) table paddlers swept all six titles at stake in the 19th Erne Jawad Table Tennis Cup, with the young but deadly Dannel Jay Tormis leading the charge at the Elizabeth Mall Entertainment Center the other night.
Tormis defended the two titles he won last year, the men’s open and boys 17-under.
Tormis beat his teammate Glendo Nayre, 3-2, to lord it over in the men’s open and then edged out Stephen Jaca, 3-1, to clinch the 17-under crown.
Tormis’ sister Elona Dane also had her hands full after winning the girls 17 plum. She also settled for the first runner-up honors in the women’s open.
Elona defended her girls 17-under tiara against Jerny Kaye Pepito, while Candy Babalcon wound up third.
Elona, however, missed a double victory like her brother after bowing to Jennifer Jacalan in the women’s open finals.
John Mari Nayre topped the boys 12-under after defeating Vincent Salera as Stanley Heredia landed third.
Athena Cumaingking reigned supreme in the girls 12-under after beating Jeramae Saromines. (FREEMAN)
