Surban, Mier to join Talisay MB contest

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines – After showcasing their wares in the Asian Mountainbike Championships in Korea, Cebuanos John Mier and Niño Surban are expected to see action in the 1st Talisay City Vice Mayor Allan Bucao Mountainbike Challenge 2010 which is set to kick off today in Ilang-ilang, barangay Lagtang.

The local downhill riders will be the first to showcase their skills in the event.

The downhill event will feature three classes -- pro, intermediate and beginners. The venue will be the terrain beside the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) reservoir.

The cross-country competition where Surban and Mier are expected to see action will take place tomorrow starting and finishing at the Talisay City Hall.

Aside from the open and combined junior-beginners' class, the cross-country event will have the veterans and executive classes in this Perfect Clean General Services, Kishanta, Gleymark Construction, Juscar Taxi, The Freeman, Wellson Enterprises and OZ Racing-supported event.

Both Surban and Mier came out as the best among Southeast Asian entries in their class during the Korea event.

Surban was the only Filipino entry in the elite class, yet managed to wound up 13th overall even suffering rear brake malfunction under a very cold and very technical environment in Jecheon City in South Korea.

Mier, for his part, came out fourth overall and could have done better if only his supposed teammate in the junior division was able to compete had he not suffered a bad injury during its practice session. (FREEMAN)
