CEBU, Philippines – After almost a decade of waiting, triathlon action goes back to the Southern part of Cebu with the staging of the 1st Val 2020 Naga Triathlon on October 9 at Naga's baywalk.
Ralph Arche of Sugbutriathlon, one of the event organizers, said in a press conference yesterday at Sandtrap said the last action in the South was held in 2003 in Sibonga and since then no other event in this three-in-one sport took place.
The upcoming race in Naga will feature two distances - the sprint and super sprint.
The sprint consists of one-kilometer swim, 30-kilometer bike and a 7.5-km run, while the super sprint will have 500m swim, 15km bike and 3.75km run.
To attract more participants, Arche along with Lorhiz Echavez said they will allow the use of floating devices approved by the technical committee during the race.
The sprint covers six categories - 19-below, seniors 20, seniors 30, masters 40, masters 50,female open and the tandem-relay action.
The super sprint will be split into the male and female open in the event supported by Mayor Valdemar Chiong and the municipality of Naga, Rudy Project, Metrografix, Tyrone Property Realty and Devel-opment, Holiday Gym and Spa, Sandtrap, sportsman Oscar "Boying" Rodriguez, Jr. and Cebu Houses.
Registration fee is pegged at P350 for the individual battle and P300 per head in the tandem/relay action inclusive of souvenir t-shirt, race bib and snacks.

Triathletes who decide to register during the race day will have to pay P500 for the individual class and P350 per athlete in the relay/tandem.
