Duenas, Tabal rule World Heart Day Run
CEBU, Philippines – John Philip Duenas sustained his momentum to clinch another title via the World Heart Day Run at the Terraces grounds of Ayala Center-Cebu.
Duenas topped the men's 10K action with the time of 35 minutes and 11.07 seconds, while the comebacking Mendel Lopez finished second in 37:02.1.
Robert Daang grabbed the third spot with a 37:02.10 clocking, while Harold Strada landed fourth in 38:43.50 and Leo Abello fifth in 40:46.76.
In the distaff side, Mary Joy Tabal made the most out of the absence of Mary Grace delos Santos to take home the champion's trophy in 42:46.80.
Lorhiz Echavez got the second place honors in 47:40.48 as Sofie Laumann wound up third in 48:52.43.
In the doctors category, Harem Deiparine claimed the top spot after edging out Glenn Cang, while Emily Estrada dominated the women's class after outpacing Katrina Perez.
In the battle among medical representatives, Kim Chan came out the fastest in the men's side, while Angela Olis lorded it over in the women's bracket.
In the 5K division exclusive for doctors, Samuel Yadao and Judith Fernando reigned supreme in their respective classes.
The 12-under runners also showcased their wares, with Reylan Felecio topping the boys division and Lenlie Cardenas ruling the distaff side.
Over in Camarines Sur, Cebu's road running queen Mary Grace de los Santos and fellow Cebuana Miscelle Gelbuena had a 2-3 finish in the CamSur Marathon.
De los Santos missed the RP women's open title snatched by Joan Banaag, but got a personal record of three hours and three minutes to her delight.
Dr. Yong Larrazabal also registered a personal best time of 3:47.30 in marathon, while his wife Donna ranked ninth in the 21K after clocking in two hours and a min-ute.
Cebuana lawyer-broadcaster-sports columnist Haide Acuña also had a decent showing in the CamSur event, thanks to Madelyn Carter for deciding to pace her instead of going for a competitive run. (FREEMAN)
