Pecandela hands Litigators first defeat

CEBU, Philippines – The Pecandela Law Firm halted the seven-game winning streak of the Litigators, 78-68, at the start of the second round of elimination in the Integrated Bar of the Phil-ippines (IBP) 5th Lawyer's League-2010 Mayor's Cup basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish Gym along Escario Street, this city.

After a slow start, Pecandela caught fire in the second period and zoomed ahead, 58-42, going into the final canto.

Pecandela then survived a last ditch rally by the Litigators to eke out a 10-point win.

Tommy Yu paced Pecandela with 19 points, while Sam Malazarte chipped in 15 markers followed by Mark Russ Gamallo and Francis Pepito with 12 points each.

The Bauzon twins Richard and Edward banged in 29 points combined for the Litigators, while Mark Gamallo added 14.

In the other games, defending champion Super Idols reaffirmed its mastery over the Pañeros , 67-57, the Iron Eagles finally barged into the win column after lashing back at the Bros 'N Law in overtime, 69-61, while Mt. Zion scored a 57-52 upset over YLAC, 57-52. (FREEMAN)
