Parents and sports
Before anything else, I would like to thank the Lord for giving me another year in my life.
I would also like to thank everybody, who sent text messages, email, and Facebook greetings and those who called to greet me on my birthday.
I feel very blessed to have friends and family like you.
I am now older, wiser and a little wider. I was hoping somebody would greet me and not just say may you have many more birthdays to come, but instead hope you become handsomer and richer hehehe…
Thank you to all who remembered!

My interest in being a sporting parent started 14 years ago yesterday when my son, Nico, was born during my 27th birthday.
Like any other father, who once had been an athlete, I also have my sporting dreams for my son. I did realize some of them, but learned to accept the fact that I am not the one in control all the time.
The decision will really be up to the children and our role as parents should be to guide and support them in order to become better athletes.
We must remember never to also be considerate of the other children that are also involved in sports and not push our children ahead of them just so we can feel good.
Also, it is very important for us to bear in mind that our role as parents has its limits and we should always act properly in the presence of our children so we teach them the right things by setting a good example.
