USJ-R, USPF stay unbeaten in CESAFI volleyball

CEBU, Philippines - Reigning men’s champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars cruised to their fourth consecutive victory in as many games after crushing Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) in straight sets in the continuing action of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

After USJ-R of Cebu Sports Hall of Famer coach Grace Antigua annihilated CDU in the first set, 25-3, there was already no doubt as to who would emerge the victor in the one-sided battle.

USJ-R took the second set, 25-18, before finally snuffing the air out of CDU’s nose, 25-10.

After being hospitalized for three weeks due to dengue fever, Loujei Tipgos is back in action to help USJ-R pull off such lopsided triumph. He was ably backed up by Leoniel Sanchez, CHED National Games MVP and Best Blocker, Jesriel Pino, Kevin Casia, James Lawas and Jayvelle Rojas.

In the other game, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) also stayed undefeated after slamming the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) in convincing fashion, 25-12, 25-15, 25-21, thanks to the gallant efforts of Edward Ybañez, Joselito Moncada, Allan Caspillo, Marlon Luces and Jonrey Opone.

Exciting action heats up this afternoon as USJ-R and USPF go up against each other in what many perceived as a finals preview in the men’s division.

USC will clash with CIT-U in the last game this afternoon, while CDU and UV will mix it up in the opening match of the afternoon session.
