CEBU, Philippines - Efren Palugod led the winners of the 75th Corn Tee of Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu as one of his teams bagged the overall title of the four-day, 36-hole event played at the CFIC course in Pulangyuta, Danao City.
Palugod teamed up with Allan Tuck, Bernie Manundan, and Jay Macapagal for the winning run. The team scored a total of 328 points on rounds of 162 and 166 in the Modified Stableford Scoring System.
Palugod shot rounds of 42 and 41 while Tuck made 31 and 41, Manundan made 47 and 45 while Macapagal had 42 and 39.
The Corn Tee is Club Filipino’s annual member-guest event. This year’s tournament followed a four-man team format with all four scores counting for the team total.
The awards ceremony was held at the Budyong Hall of Pagcor Mactan inside the Waterfront Airport Hotel.
Manundan, an architect by profession, but a great passion for golf, also brought home the individual best net honors with his two-day total of 20-under-par 92 points.
Another individual winner was Gabriel Yap, Jr., who won the lowest gross crown with rounds of 37 and 40 for a total of five-under-par 77 points.
The Division 1 title went to the team of Evans Tumaliwan (42-43), Jonji Chiongbian (30-42), Gassy Lizares (41-33) and Carl Almario (36-39) with a total of 306 points on rounds of 149 and 157.
Runner-up honors for the premiere handicap class went to the team of Julius Neri, Sr. (38-36), Jovi Neri (38-34), Bayani Garcia (39-38) and Gen Nagai (38-39) with a total of 300 points on rounds of 153 and 147.
The title for Division 2 went to the team of Ramon Sebastian (41-43), Nestor Mendoza (39-40), Nolan Rada (43-40) and Johnny Young (33-42) with a total of 321 points scoring rounds of 156 and 165.
Runner-up honors went to another team led by Tumaliwan that also had Alan Larot (36-37), Leo Saberon (38-39), and Doli Cabahug (43-38) with an aggregate of 316 on rounds of 159 and 157.
The Division 3 crown went to the team of Ed Aliño (33-35), Roy Damole (43-38), Koko Holganza (42-45), and Gerry Quintos (40-46) with a total of 322 points on rounds of 158 and 164.
Runner-up honors went to another team of Palugod that had Gary Lim (36-40), Lino Dagus (41-36) and Cesar Salimbangon (42-43) as members. Their team had a total of 321 on rounds of 161 and 160.
Tournament organizers led by club president Ramon ‘Boboy’ Durano IV and tournament chairman Joselito ‘Jiji’ Gullas decided that all players, who scored an eagle would share the Skygo motorcycle that was originally put on the line on par-5 holes only.
Gullas said that the sponsor, Mario King, agreed to give it to all those who eagled. The prize was therefore equally shared by Ramon ‘Dustin’ Morada (15), Ellie Espinoza (7), Bayaniu Garcia (3), Rey Diaz (6) and Edgar Teves, Jr. (6). (FREEMAN)
