Consolacion Fiesta cagefest kicks off Sunday

CEBU, Philippines - All roads lead to the Consolacion Sports Complex this Sunday for the formal opening of the Consolacion Basketball Tournament 2010 Mayor Alegado Cup Fiesta Conference.

A total of 21 barangays will see action in the two-month tilt, which is held as one of the highlights of the town’s annual fiesta in honor of its beloved patron San Narciso.

To spice up the kick-off bash, sports organizer and commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores said the affable candidates of Miss Consolacion will join the traditional opening parade.

Among the categories to be contested are the invitational, all-barangay official, inter-barangay A and B, Sangguniang Kabataan, little mini (12-under), mini (15-under) and midget (18-under).

A total of eight teams will take part in the invitational category, which will follow a double round robin format in the elimination round.

The champion will take home a whopping P50,000 in cash, while the runner-up will pocket P20,000.

Aside from basketball, the other events to be featured include volleyball, dayon-dayon, lawn tennis organized by Hon. Ben Ermac and soccer to be spearheaded by Engr. Nilo Ferraren.

The annual sportsfest is supported by SK Federation president Hyacinth Herrera, ABC president Gelio Maquilan, executive committee chairman Julius Alegado, event director Engr. Nilo Ferraren and commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores. (FREEMAN)
