State of mind

I wrote yesterday that there is an event set Friday at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, the PAS Executive Fun Golf Tournament. I was wrong. The date of the event is September 24, which is also a Friday and not August 27.

The event will have four categories - A, B, C, and Seniors for the members and a guest division using the Blind Callaway format. The registration fee is pegged at P2,000.

The divorce of Tiger and Elin Woods was not exactly something shocking as many have expected it to happen after word about the golf superstar's infidelity was out.

Elin is probably the only person to beat Tiger using only a 9-iron, but the fans remain hopeful that the single again golf pro would be more focused on his game that his martial troubles have been settled.

I am not sure though whether Tiger has really gotten over the thing that troubles him with the divorce becoming official, but it might help get him back into the proper mental state for competition.

Any golfer would tell you how much your mind dictates your game. Think of the water on the right of the target and your ball would land there. Think of the sandtrap as a tough one to get out of while hitting a pitch to the green and your ball will find its way into that particular bunker.

Many pros tell you to think of the target and not the hazards. That is easier said than done. In fact, when I am hitting out of an area that puts a tree or trees in front of me, I aim for such since I am more likely to miss it than when I aim to its left or right.

Tiger is not like us amateurs, who would be happy to score a few pars and birdies during a round. He is still the world number 1 even if he has not played very well for several months now.

There are still many golf records to break and many tournaments, especially Majors, to win and he will definitely give it a go.

Like a round of golf, Tiger has found his life inside a hazard, but the game offers you options on how to play. You can hit from inside the hazard or take a penalty and drop your ball or hit from where you were before hitting into the hazard.

Our lives are, however, far more complicated than a game of golf. With this new phase in Tiger's life, he probably is thinking of his next shot and how he would try to lessen the impact of the error he made.
