All set for Aboitiz Race on Sunday

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines – It’s all systems go for the Abotiz Race to Reduce Challenge 2010 at the South Road Properties this Sunday with several foreign runners joining in.

Aside from the Cebu-based Kenyan Simon Losiaboi, several other Kenyans are expected to see action in the half-marathon contest.

Yesterday’s final press conference for the said event also bared the entry of two Danish, two seasoned Koreans, a British, and Americans in the premiere class.

The 21K action will be limited to 500 runners only since they will be using a timing chip, a more expensive version of the one used in the Cebu City Marathon.

The other race length which will utilize a timing device is the 10K, which will be limited to 1,000 entries only.

Right now, several slots are still available for both the 21K and 10K run.

The deadline for registration is on August 19 including that of the 3K and 5K run.

To ensure the safety of the runners, the organizers were able to get the SRP management’s nod to close half of the road affected by the race route.

For the benefit of the runners, 10 water stations and a Gatorade station will be put up plus a water shower at the 21K’s turning point.

In another development, the Aboitiz companies pledged big amount for this fund-raising event if their selected “non-running” employee or official will be able to finish the race.

“We really want to get everybody involved as part of our social responsibilities that even non-runners at Abotiz have pledged support whether in manpower or monetary funds,” says Aboitiz External Communications manager Theresa “Ganzo” Sederiosa,

More than being a run, the event is also about environmental concerns and for the benefit of some poor children and depressed communities here. (FREEMAN)
