Carter, Losiaboi dominate 5th CDU University Run

CEBU, Philippines – Madelyn Carter and Simon Losiaboi emerged victorious in the record-field of 3, 500 runners in the 5th Cebu Doctors’ University powered University Run at the CDU main campus in Mandaue City.

Carter was declared the 10K women’s champion after finding out that another female runner who crossed the finish line ahead of her made some shortcuts.

Carter finished the race in 39 minutes and 45.28 seconds followed by Jojielyn Pepito in 40:32.78. Aiza Suwaybaguio took the third spot in 42:00.98, Lorhiz Echavez wound up fourth in 43 minutes and Emily Rosas placed fifth in 49:38.64.

Losiaboi topped the men’s side with the time of 32:15.60. Arnold Unabia came in second with a 33:13.09 clocking followed by Albert Busa 33:55.96.

In the 10K medical class, Dr. Raymund Bontol bagged the top spot with a 42:37.84 clocking, while Dr. Mitty Igaña lorded it over in the women’s bracket.

In the 10K students category, Neil Bontigao won the title in the men’s class, while Anette Cabagnot reigned supreme in the distaff side.

In the 5K action, Reprinel Banzon and Jolly Rose Maxilom ruled in their respective divisions, Charlie Berberio and Tessa Gabrillo emerged as the fastest in the employees category, while Lugz Lim and Jane Sia dominated the alumni class.

The top three in the 3K division were Zaldy Dizon, Nick Mintilar and Francis Neil Quirante in the boys and Aprilyn Malinas, Jill Ducao and Meriam Dula in the girls side.

The 77-year-old Noel Cepeda was given special recognition as the oldest runner and two-year-old Althea Banzon as the youngest entry. The Ungo Runners also stole part of the show by topping the dance contest. (FREEMAN)
