Mandaue pugs rule Tinga Cup slugfest
CEBU, Philippines – The Mandaue City pugs performed beyond expectations as they clinched the overall championship of the 2010 Congressman Freddie Tinga Cup at the Cantada gym in Manila.
The Mandaue City bets, all trained under the famed ALA Boxing Club, swept four golds and a silver at the end of the three-day battle.
Albert Pagara posted the shortest victory among all four gold medallists as he only needed one round to force Tagbilaran City’s Brian Inojales into submission in their 51 kgs. duel
The three other Mandauehanons won the gold on points. 46 kgs. Danlou Codilla defeated Tagbilaran’s Gisell Magsayo, 48 kgs. Michael Romarate overpowered Magsayo’s teammate Bernard Torres, while 57 kgs. Mark Bernaldez outsmarted Puerto Princesa, Palawan ’s Robert Pongpong.
The silver was donated by 54 kgs. Basilio Sultan, who fumbled in the final against Misamis Oriental’s Mario Fernandez. (FREEMAN)
