ANS rule in sepak takraw, football: UC, USC-BED lead respective levels in 15th Milo Little Olympics

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines – The Abellana National School proved that with great determination and talent combined, a grandslam is not impossible as they dominated the sepak takraw event of the 15th Milo Little Olympics at the Labangon Elementary School yesterday.

The Abellana squad was way too much for the Guinadaruhan National High School of Minglanilla with a 2-0 victory.

With the formidable lineup of Asean School Games in Malaysia campaigners Rhey Jey Ortouste, Lorn Kevin Largado, George Ian Buhayan along with Mick Alarbba, the Minglanilla bets were no march against them.

Even with the grandslam though, ANS is not about to relax yet as they have a bigger mission to tackle, that is to defend their national title of the MLO on October in Cagayan de Oro.

Aside from sepak takraw, ANS also defended its title in football.

As of this writing yesterday, the UC Webmasters paded their lead with 100 points after dominating secondary badminton and table tennis boys and girls, secondary girls swimming and third overall in the boys side.

More points are expected to come for UC as they are harvesting most of the golds in the medal-rich athletics event, but they could not yet be declared as virtual champions with lawn tennis, chess, scrabble, lawn tennis and volleyball still on their way to the final round.

UC’s bid in the oval was spiced up with having the fastest runner in Kenneth Virgyll Monzon with 11.51 seconds among hundreds of young runners showcasing their wares in running.

UC also had a good time in badminton after defending its secondary titles despite having some of their trusted players “pirated” to another school.

“Napiangan gyud mi karon, pero mayo na lang kay nakaya namo,” said UC coach Dennis Olofernes to The FREEMAN.

UC also posted a double victory in table tennis thanks to its boys squad, preventing the Jean Phillippe Honoridez-led DBTC to outsmart them in the championship game at their own turf.

Behind UC right now is the University of San Carlos with 66 points while ANS stands with 50.5 points as Silliman University stands fourth with 40 points and the University of San Jose-Recoletos at fifth spot with 33 points.

In the elementary department, the University of San Carlos-BED leads the cast with 61.75 points, while Cebu City Central School trails with 43.25. Silliman University and Banilad Elementary School shared the third spot with 30 points apiece and Pardo Elementary School at fifth spot with 28 points. (THE FREEMAN)
