Mandaue pugs in Freddie Tinga Cup
CEBU, Philippines – Team Mandaue City is fielding five amateur boxers in the Congressman Freddie Tinga Cup, which unfolds at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig today.
Mandaue finished as runner-up in last year's edition of the event.
This year's team will be composed of pinweight Danlou Codilla, lightweight Michael Romarate, flyweight Albert Pagara, bantamweight Basilio Sultan and featherweight Mark Bernaldez.
The team is handled by head coach Peter Cuizon.
Team Mandaue City hopes to bag the title this time banking on the rigorous training that the boxers went through at the ALA Boxing Gym.
Last year, Mandaue went home with a gold medal courtesy of Bernaldez plus silver medals from Sultan and Romarate.
Aside from Mandaue, six other squads are taking part in this competition for boxers aged 17 years old and under.
The other teams Tagbilaran, Puerto Princesa, Misamis Oriental, Bacolod, Mandaluyong and Boracay. (THE FREEMAN)
