Agencia Grande tops GAA hoop

- GGM -

CEBU, Philippines – Jojo Cainglet, one of the basketball-playing Cainglet siblings from Guadalupe, scored 20 points as he lifted the Agencia Grande to a 94-86 victory in overtime against Mc Mill team to win the 11th Guadalupe Athletics Association (GAA) Founder's Cup 2010 First Conference basketball tournament at the Guadalupe Sports Complex.

Cainglet, older brother of journeyman Alex Cainglet who is also a commercial league veteran, was also adjudged the MVP.

Earlier, Pure Serv Mineral Water defeated Fritz Berry, 76-65, to settle for third place.

Agencia Grande had their largest lead at 11 points, 51-40 at the intermission incidentally on Cainglet's basket.

The game was close the entire second half and Agencia Grande had to work overtime when Joselito Ocampo made two free throws for Mc Mill in the final 23 seconds to force an 85-all deadlock and in the return play, Agencia Grande bungled a chance to win outright for missing their final attempt, thus, an overtime period ensued.

In the five-minute extension, however, Agencia Grande's stifling defense allowed Mc Mill to score only a matchstick that went into the GAA record books for fewest points in a span of five minutes.

Ocampo and Dandy Amolo paced Mc Mil with 28 and 20 points, respectively.

Raul Sollano, the new GAA president replacing Dr. Boy Te, handed the cash prizes and trophies to the winners and top performing players.

The champion team received P5,000, the second placer P4,000 and the third placer went home with P3,000 while the fourth placer got P2,000. (THE FREEMAN)
