CEBU, Philippines - The Angelica hoopsters banked on the offensive outburst of Kenneth Taboada who knocked in a record 40 points in their 101-96 victory over the Park ‘N Go Bakeshop at the start of the F. Llamas Youth Association Season 2 (FYA) basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
Taboada, whose shots clicked at any angles, was heavily backed up by Ranel Patalita with 22 points, even as team owner Michael Garcia chipped in five points.
Dexter Caballero and Jonathan Lopez each had 18 points for Park ‘N Go followed by Carl Rama with 11.
Caballero could have scored more but he was already exhausted because he played earlier in an exhibition game where he starred in CRV’s 75-68 win over the Alberto’s Pizza of Robert Chua.
Tata Laborte led CRV with 13 points followed by his younger brother Mico with 12.
Hans Groogard topped Alberto’s Pizza with 20 points while Chua finished with 16.
During the opening day graced by tournament chairman Boogie Atillo, Punta Princesa Brgy. Councilor Ray Gabriel Salgado and perennial FYA benefactor Rady Abarintos, Jenny Pastrano of Team Simpolang romped off with the Best Muse award, while the team of Leo Lauron took the best in uniform honors.
