Valdehueza rules Kalunasan mountainbikefest

CEBU, Philippines – Bal Marsius Valdehueza emerged as the fastest among 30 riders in Cebu's Level Up Your Crank II mountainbike competition in Brgy. Kalunasan, this city.

Valdehueza, who was classified under the executive A during the first edition of the event staged in Brgy. Busay, ruled the junior class this time with a time of 14 minutes and 13 seconds in an Individual Time Trial. He beat the first edition's overall champion Daryl Ivan Cubar who clocked in 15:14.

More to it, Valdehueza topped the overall rankings, outsmarting senior division titlist Orville Tecson who completed the race in 14:25.

In the executive division, Paul Gabriel Perez took the top spot with the time of 16:21 followed by Brendo Gascon in 17:11. Reynaldo Unabia wound up third in 19 minutes.

Andy de la Cerna lorded it over in the beginners division in 15:23 followed by Nilo Hesalta (16:40) and Edgar Calvo (18:21).

Christie Dagatan posted back-to-back victories in the women's open. She defeated May Leechellee Ojales anew, this time with a 20:40 clocking as against the latter's 29:09.

On the other hand, Dave Chiong and Jokie Gonzales dominated their respective classes in the downhill event.

Gonzales reigned supreme in the amateur division with the time of four minutes and 34 seconds. The next two spots were occupied by Elwin "Bawing" Bucariza (4:46) and Adrian Abella (4:52).

Chiong came out the fastest in the beginners category in 4:47 followed by Ferdinand Gonzales and Mark Anthony Racal. (THE FREEMAN)
