CEBU, Philippines - Cho Kyu Jeong bagged the top honors for the premiere handicap class of the July Monthly Medal played at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last Saturday.
Cho fired nines of 36 and 39 for a total of three-over-par 75 strokes. He later edged club champion Enrico Solon in the countback via a better score on the last six holes.
The lowest net plum for class A went to Arnel Kwan, who shot 66 strokes off a gross 76. He also won the special award for nearest the pin leaving five feet and seven inches for a birdie attempt on the par-3 hole number 6.
Runner-up honors for class A went to Kim Kwang Seok with a net score of 67 strokes.
The lowest gross honors for class B went to Jun Mendoza with 80 strokes on identical nines of 40.
The lowest net honors for this handicap class went to Ed Eroy with 63 strokes off a gross score of 81. Runner-up honors went to Dan Ledesma with a net score of 67.
The class C plum for the best gross went to Jonathan Yu with 86 edging Michael Lim in the countback.
The lowest net for class C went to Michael Lim with 67 strokes beating Andrew Si and David Villono in the countback. Si prevailed over Villono and took the runner-up honors.
Chandran Rama fired four-over-par 76 to rule the seniors’ category taking the lowest gross honors.
Fred Ostermayer had a tournament-best score of 62 strokes to win the lowest net plum for the 55 years old and above class. Runner-up honors went to Tony Amorr with a net score of 66 beating Felix Villanueva in the tie breaker.
Joan Hortelano won the lowest gross honors for the ladies class shooting 97 strokes. The lowest net plum went to Tessa Ozoa, who had 80 strokes off a gross 106.
Cho Yung Oh topped the guest division scoring 71 strokes. Runner-up honors went to Ted Almario with a net score of 72.
A special prize for most accurate drive on hole number 11 went to Rey Sanchez, whose ball came to rest 8 inches from the center line. —NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
