ASMS @ 45 and The Freeman @ 91

All alumni of Andres Soriano Memorial School (ASMS) de la Salle in Barrio DAS, Toledo City are invited to Fortified @ 45 tomorrow, the 45th anniversary celebration of the school.

Although I spent only three wonderful years in the school located in the mountains of Toledo City near the mines of Atlas Consolidated Mining Corporation now known as Carmen Copper Corporation, my classmates have asked me to join them in this celebration.

The green (La Salle) blood still runs in my veins and for many others, who have studied in the school.

Tomorrow’s activities will start with the registration of participants at 8 a.m. to be followed by the mass at 9 a.m.

The program proper starts at 10 a.m. while lunch will be held at 12 noon. Those, who have signified their participation early, will have free lunch. The program will continue after lunch then a tour of the campus and the mines will start at 3 p.m.

See you tomorrow!

Tomorrow is also a special day for The Freeman as it celebrates its 91st anniversary.

Well, the celebration at the office was held yesterday, but the anniversary is tomorrow yet.

I went through Google to see what significance the number 91 has in sports and probably what many NBA fans remember is that Dennis Rodman wore the number as a member of the champion Chicago Bulls.

Another top athlete, who wore the number was Russian Sergei Fedorov of the National Hockey League (NHL). We don’t know much about hockey here, but this fella, Sergei is best remembered by Filipino sports fans as the man, who claimed he married Russian tennis bombshell Anna Kournikova in 2001 and divorced her in 2003.

The marriage has been denied by Kournikova.

By the way, two other athletes wore number 91 in honor of Rodman – Ron Artest (now with the Lakers) when he was with the Pacers and New York Yankees pitcher Alfredo Aceves.

For those about as old as this newspaper, Yankee Joe DiMaggio had 91 hits during his 56-game hitting streak in 1941.

By the way, if you have one each of the US coins less than a dollar, you are going to have 91 cents.

Cheers to The Freeman’s 91 years!
