CEBU, Philippines - Inspired by the positive outcome of its inaugural venture in running event here, the Cebu Doctors University-College of Dentistry Alumni Association organizes the 2nd CDU Alumni Run on July 18 at the CDU-Mandaue campus grounds in north reclamation area.
This is the second time this year that dentists are spearheading such kind of event seeing the good benefits of running themselves.The first of which was organized by other group last February.
Over a thousand runners are expected to join the race, which is the culminating activity of CDU’s Batch ’85 silver jubilee celebration.
Batch president Oliver Seno said in a press conference yesterday that the other events they have lined up include a mass, medical-dental mission to some adopted barangays of CDU, and their grand alumni homecoming.
The CDU Alumni Run features 10, 5 and 3-kilometer race lengths. The 10 and 5K action will be divided into two divisions, men and women’s class, while the 3K is open to all fun runners and alumni.
The champion in the men and women’s 10K will receive a uniform prize of P3,000 each, while the second and third will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
The top three finishers in the 5K will pocket P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000.
All the top three in 10 and 5K run will get medals and shoes from one of the event sponsors, Transformer, while the fourth and fifth will receive certificate and shoes as well.
Special prizes will be given away to the top 10 placers among the CDU alumni.
Dr. Boy Te, on the other hand, bared that another special award is up for grabs in “Fun Smile of the Day,“ which will be handed out to a runner with the most captivating smile.
The traditional awards like the oldest and youngest runners as well as the best in costume are also something to look forward to.
As an added bonus, all the participants are entitled to a raffle draw during the awarding ceremony.
Registration will begin on Monday at three designated areas - Centre For Sight and SAPPRO’s office both located at the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital and at Nike Athletic Club located at the Banilad Town Center.
To make it hassle-free to runners, the singlets will be distributed upon registration.
Entry fee is pegged at P250 for those who will enlist until 12. Late registrants will be assessed with P300.
Proceeds of the event will go to the CDU-CDAA and for the Run For Sight Foundation, according to CDU-CDAA president Dr. Nonito Narvasa. (FREEMAN NEWS)
