Cortes boxing tourney resumes tonight

CEBU, Philippines - After a few weeks lull, the Mayor Jonas Cortes Cup Amateur Boxing Series will resume tonight at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.

A total of 12 bouts will be featured in another exciting night of fistic action.

Leading the charge of combatants are Basilio Sultan, Christian Apawan and Palarong Pambansa silver medallist Michael Romaratem, all members of Team Mandaue City.

Sultan and Apawan will strut their wares in the 54 kgs. class against separate opponents.

Sultan will face a boxer from Palawan, while Apawan will take on Albert Tagara, a new discovery of the fabled ALA Boxing Gym.

Also set to watch out for is Melvin Desingga of the University of the Visayas, who is set to fight in the 57 kgs. category.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
