Sy, Jumapao shine in RP Open bowl

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano bowlers figured prominently in the youth masters division of the 39th Philippines International Open at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl inside the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila.

Alexis Sy showed she’s ready to take a more challenging battle abroad after winning the youth girls masters class over fellow Cebuana Kim Lao.

Sy, who is set to represent the country in this year’s Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship at the 30-lane 8800 Gold AMF Synthetic Mega Lanes in Endah Parade, Sri Petaling, Malaysia on July 5–12, overcame an erratic start of the 10-game final en route to snatching the crown with 2,002 pinfalls.

Lao enjoyed the early but failed to sustain her momentum to finish just second with 1,950 pins.

In the boys class, former national youth mainstay Jomar Jumapao defended his youth boys masters throne with a total of 2,013 pinfalls. Erstwhile leader Kevin Cu landed at second place with 1,986 pins. (FREEMAN NEWS)
