CEBU, Philippines - After barging into the semifinals, the Central Visayas volleybelles crashed in two straight games to just settle for fourth place in the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) volleyball tournament yesterday at the NIA volleyball courts in Quezon City.
In the crossover semis, the Cevees were pummeled by Ilocos Region in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21.
The CV belles, powered by RP Team member Jusabelle Brillo, former Nestea Fit beach volley champs, Erika Camille Verano and Apple Eve Saraum, along with Kennette Garces and Joreen Sanchez, suffered a double whammy as they again fell prey to Upper Pampanga, 25-19, 25-20 in the battle for third place.
“We had a lot of reception errors and we were not able to establish well our ground defense that’s why we had a bad performance. But having make it to the semis is already a great privilege for us,” said team captin Sanchez.
Meanwhile, Western Visayas clinched the championship after defeating Ilocos Region, 25-23, 25-22.
The four-day tilt was among the highlights of NIA’s 47th founding anniversary. – THE FREEMAN
