CEBU, Philippines - Central Visayas booked a semi-final ticket after finishing all its assignments in the preliminary round of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) volleyball tournament yesterday at NIA volleyball courts in Quezon City.
It was an easy task for the CV belles as they thumped Eastern Visayas in grand fashion, 21-16, 21-14.
The exemplary performances of RP team member Jusabelle Brillo, former Nestea Fit beach volley champs, Erika Camille Verano and Apple Eve Saraum along with Kennette Garces, Joreen Sanchez and China Repollo powered the CV squad to victory.
Prior to the match, the CV squad pummeled Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) in straight sets, 21-4, 21-6.
Then, they had to pass through a three set thriller, 16-21, 21-14, 21-18, before thrashing equally-tough Central Luzon led by former RP team member Cherry Macatangay and RP beach volley athlete, Joan Carpio.
CV’s crucial task is to fend off Ilocos Region in the semis this morning in order to enter into the championship match later this afternoon.
“We will strive hard in order to win. We’re keeping our fingers’ crossed in order to show the best of what we’ve got so that we could bring back pride and honor as we go back to Cebu,” said Brillo.
The four-day sporting event is one of the highlights of NIA’s 47th anniversary. – THE FREEMAN
