Ole, ole.

By the time today’s paper hits the streets, some of us are probably still awake watching the game between 1998 champion France and inaugural champion Uruguay.

I am writing today’s column with so much anticipation of the opening of the South Africa World Cup, which is held for the first time in the continent.

Hosting the event is a huge task and there are already some security problems that have been cropping up.

The other day, there was a report about three Chinese journalists who were robbed of cash and a camera while their car momentarily stopped.

Crime has been one issue in this World Cup and the Japanese team members have even been advised not to go out of their hotel to ensure their safety.

For us, who are not that fortunate to be where the action is, let us enjoy what we can see on TV.

Hours after writing this piece, I plan to be with my high school classmates to meet regarding the silver jubilee of our class then later on enjoy the opening game between host South Africa and Mexico.

Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole…

If you want to know who is playing in the World Cup, you can just search the web for the information.

The Philippines is six hours ahead of South Africa, so just add the time difference to know what time you should already be home or at some place to watch the game.

The site gives you the daily schedule and also the schedule of the teams and the brackets.

There’s so much material about the World Cup on the web now that can surely fill up your need for information and trivia.

One interesting article I came across was on CNN.com about how to take successful penalty kicks.

 Based on research, it was found that many kickers focus on the goalkeeper, which is the reason why the ball, instead of going where the goalie cannot reach it, lands in his hands instead.

There are still slots available for the 4th Y101 Corporate Cup set on June 18 at the Cebu Country Club.

Entry fee is P10,000 per team of four players.

This will be a four-to-play, three-to-count event using the Modified Stableford Scoring System.
