Senining brothers shine as USJ-R bags 21-under title in Talamban caging
CEBU, Philippines - Brothers Renzo and Rendell Senining sparked a daring first-half breakaway as the Ave Maria Sanctuary Park-sponsored University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars whipped the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 62-49, to win the 21-under crown of the Talamban basketball tournament at the Talamban Sports Complex.
Rendell, the youngest of the three Senining siblings, scored only two points in the second half but he and Clint Muñez carried the offensive load for the Baby Jaguars with 12 points apiece, while his older brother Renzo added seven markers.
The Baby Jaguars raced to a blazing 22-6 start and never looked back since they manged to take a 19-point lead late in the third period, 45-26.
Big man Lorenzo Bacaltos was the only Baby Warrior in double figures with 10 points.
In the preliminary match, the visitors from Brgy. Apas led by ex-commercial player Toto Lawas demolished the host Talamban selection led by Rico Archival, 82-62, to grab the 40 above category crown.
