Golf for a cause in Dumaguete

I have written about many events for a cause and this latest one that I got word about is taking place next month yet at the Ang Tay Golf and Sports Complex in Dumaguete City and is dubbed as the “1st Negros Oriental PNP Golf Tournament.”

This is organized by somebody, who many of us from the PMA Cebu Squad hold dear as he is our not only our upperclassman, but also our ‘big brother’, and squad leader emeritus, among the many other roles he plays for us.

I am referring to Sr. Supt. Augusto Morales Marquez, Jr., better known as MarQ to many or dad to his many foster kids from the younger classes of the Philippine Military Academy.

This event on June 18 to 20 has a registration fee of P1,200 and will use the Modified Stableford or PAL Points System.

The flyer says that the best 18 holes would count for the event.

The participants will be classified under three handicap classes for men and the ladies division.

SL (squad leader) MarQ, as we refer to him, told me that he has already the commitment of many players to join this event.

The tournament is for the benefit of the Camp Fernandez Day Care Center, which he has been supporting since he assumed command of the provincial police of Negros Oriental.

I know the story of how the once decrepit room melted the heart of SL MarQ and how he has worked to support the facility which is one of the best ways to support the underprivileged children in their area get a good start in terms of education.

In the past, he solicited materials and books for the children and even got a positive response from fellow Peemayers abroad and other parts of the country.

By playing in the tournament or supporting it as sponsor, you actually help the more than 50 kids that the day care center can accommodate, get a better education.

More power to SL MarQ and all those helping him put this together.

By the way, our SL picked up golf not too long ago and is already hooked to the game. I once had a chance to play with him early this year at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and at the end of the round, what he told me made me very happy, “this is one of the best days of my life,” he said.

That is not counting the balls that we lost and impossible looking shots that we made in areas that many good players probably haven’t seen at the AVGCC layout in their lifetime hehehe…

MILESTONES: One of the most important women in my life is celebrating her birthday today, my mother Erma Lebumfacil Quiñones.

Mama Erma bravely raised four children by herself after our father died back in 1977 and I wish her all the best.

Happy birthday greetings also go to my good friend Jose Emilio ‘Boljie’ Bolhano, sports editor Michael Limpag, and Adrienne Ong.

Tomorrow’s greetings go to June Perez, Kharoline Dante-Dizon, and Atty. Marlon Yap.

More power to all of you!
