Two teams pace View golf

- Nimrod NL Quiñones -

CEBU, Philippines - Two teams share the lead after the penultimate day of the 12th View Invitational at Alta Vista Golf and Country.

The second half of the field will be completing the tournament today.

Setting the pace are the teams of Chandran Rama and Alan Tuck and that of Ricky Aznar and Rey Villar with 142 points each.

Rama and Tuck had rounds of 64 and 78 points while Aznar and Villar made identical rounds of 71 points.

The tournament is the club’s annual member-guest event and uses the Modified Stableford Scoring System. The teams will be classified into three handicap categories while those whose members are both at least 55 years old and their total age is 120 years will be classed under the seniors’ category.

There will be prizes for the top three of each handicap class and the seniors’ category as well as to the team with the best net score and the lowest gross score.

The team classification will be based on the average handicap of the two-man teams. The total number of participants will be divided by three with the upper third to comprise class A, the middle third class B, and lower third class C.

Several teams were still playing as of press time.

The duo of Felix Villanueva and retired general Rodante Joya combined for 136 points on rounds of 69 and 67. They are also the leading contender for the seniors’ division.

Ben Yu and Marlon Villanueva made 134 on rounds of 65 and 69 while one point further back is the tandem of Jacinto Limyutian and Jimmy Mendoza with 133 (64-69).

Three teams are tied with 131 points each. These are that of Alex Yeo and retired general Jacinto Ligot (65-66), Leo Saberon and Rene Tariman (63-68) and Douglas Ong and Oliver Ong (66-65).

Nobody has made an ace yet after three days of the tournament and the prizes at stake remain up for grabs.

The hole-in-one prizes are a Kia Rio sedan from Gateway Motors (Kia) Cebu, a golf cart from Club Car, a residential lot from Santa Lucia Realty, non-cashable chips from Pagcor Lahug and Mactan, a trip to Hong Kong from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis Trading, and membership to Greenlux Golf Driving Range.

Some of the prizes like the non-cashable chips will be raffled off in tonight’s awards ceremony if nobody will score an ace. Greenlux is also raffling off gift certificates in the awards night.

A Skygo motorcycle is also at stake for an eagle on all par-4 holes.

The awarding ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. at the AVGCC ballroom and is exclusive to the players and the invited sponsors.

Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.

Also to be awarded tonight will be the winners of the Tournament of Aces, the club’s championship. (FREEMAN NEWS)
