MANILA, Philippines - Cebu’s well-decorated trackster Lindley Fran Navaja set a new record in the 100m event during the Milo National Open Track and Field Championship yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Navaja, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) National Games’ fastest man, made history afer clocking 10.3 seconds, breaking the old record of 10.6 seconds of Julio Bayaban on December 19, 1979 during the Marikina City National Open.

“I was shocked that I was able to break a record. I’m grateful that my body was really functioning well and I really aimed to set a new record,” said Navaja.

The 18-year old Electrical Engineering student of the University of Cebu said that this is the first time that he was able to break a record in the national open.

Team Cebu City got another gold from Ernesto Ybañez in the long jump event with a distance of 6.99m.

Navaja and Ybañez along with Dharl Pitogo and Kent del Rosario also topped the 4x100m relay with the time of 43.3 seconds. (FREEMAN NEWS)
