Lopez bags gold in Milo trackfest

CEBU, Philippines - The decorated Mendel Lopez bagged Cebu City’s first gold after reigning supreme in the 5,000m run during the Milo National Open Track and Field Championship yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The 25-year old marathoner improved his bronze medal last year as he snatched the gold this time with the time of 15 minutes and 15.94 seconds.

“I’m glad that I was able to improve my standing in the 5K event. My mind and body were really in good condition, that’s why I was able to get the number one spot,” said Lopez.

He hopes to get another golden finish in the 10K category tomorrow.

In contrary, last year’s gold medalist Irin Baluran of the University of Cebu only had a bronze medal finish in the long jump junior event with a distance of 5.11m. – THE FREEMAN
